Camping Coffee & Tea
. . . Something To Get You Going In The Mornings
Camping trips need coffee & tea, just like any other morning in your life. It’s pretty difficult for a lot of people (including yours truly) to get going until at least 3 cups of coffee have found their way down the back of the throat, and I know that I’m not alone in that. Add to that the possibility that you might not have slept quite as well in your tent, with your sleeping bag and air mattress as you do at home (I know that camping is very comfortable these days, but it’s still not the same is it, listening to the sound of the kids snoring through the fabric in the next “bedroom” and listening out for wild critters chewing on your guy lines). Yes, coffee and tea is an essential part of any camping trip, of that I have no doubt.
He’s got a few ideas, although I’m not sure that the thermos flask would do for a camping trip, maybe for a short hike!
If he’s only fishing for a couple of hours, he could have taken a thermos flask . . . anyway, he seems to prefer fresh brewed so good luck to him.
Making Coffee While Camping
Do you love those old western movies when the cowboys have a coffee pot sitting on the fire . . . I sure do pardner! Anyway, those old coffee pots are still available from camping equipment stores, only they’re not old coffee pots, they’re new ones. It seems like hiking and camping equipment stores realize the importance of good coffee on a camp out, so they’ve made sure that there are plenty of different options for brewing some up.
Hey, their cowboy coffee didn’t even use a proper coffee pot, but you do need a “drill or poking device” . . . the mind is running riot on that one . . . do behave yourself!
So what can you expect to find in the camping store to make the job of brewing up some fresh coffee easy on your camping trip? What are the choices (in case you don’t have a “drill or poking device” handy)?
- French press coffee maker – you know, one of those with a plunger. Just add some hot water to your coarse-ground coffee granules, leave it for a few minutes and press the plunger, or plunge the presser . . . not sure which.
- Traditional coffee pots – (like the ones I thought the cowboy would have), well, they’re great not just for making coffee on your camping trip, you can also use them to hot up water for lots of other reasons too . . . maybe filling a hot water bottle to keep you cozy on a chilly night!
- Coffee percolator – yes, just because you’re camping it doesn’t mean that you have to succumb to instant coffee powder, a camping coffee percolator is just the answer. Or how about trying this . . .
He’s an imaginative sort isn’t he? His handkerchief looked pretty clean, but do you think he had washed it specially for the video camera?
Camping Tea
Nothing beats a nice cup of tea, well, if you’re a tea drinker anyway, but don’t worry about not being able to brew up your favorite cuppa on a camping adventure . . . because lots of these coffee pots will do a great job on tea too. Now, don’t forget the biscuits, cookies, call them what you like they’re . . . great for dunking!
I like coffee, I like tea, I like the boys and the boys like me . . . . awww, cute or what?
They sure start young these days . . . .
