Hiking & Trail Gloves and Mittens
Whenever you’re hiking in the winter time, one of the most important things is to keep yourself warm . . . and a good pair of gloves or mittens is essential to keep your hands warm. You might think that all gloves were created equal . . . they were not.
Hiking gloves are available in a few different styles, thicknesses etc. Some are woollen, some are waterproof, some are made from specially developed materials to keep your hands warm in even the coldest temperatures. Some are designed to wear under your “regular” gloves, a little bit of extra layering is always a good idea when the temperatures really plummet.
When you are choosing a new pair of hiking & trail gloves or mittens there are just one or two very important things to think about.
- Do they fit well enough that you can still use your fingers . . . of course, there are some things which you will always find difficult when wearing any types of gloves, but it’s also a right pain if you have to take your hiking gloves off every time you want to do something. Make sure that they really do “fit like a glove”.
- Are they going to keep your hands warm . . . I mean really warm. This depends on the type of hiking you do . . . if you can’t wait to pack your backpack and head off into the wilderness as soon as the first fall of winter snow arrives then you’ll need a very efficient pair of gloves or mittens . . . not just a pair that seem to keep your hands warm in the hiking store.
