Rain Hats . . . .

Rain and Hiking Kinda’ Go Together

Rain hats are an important part of your hiking wardrobe, as I learned in a very harsh lesson many years ago. After taking the p**S out of my “buddy” . . . well, we used to be buddies . . . about the state of her yellow ”wetlook” rain hat which made her look a bit like Fireman Sam (you know the type I mean, right), which she had fastened to the outside of her summer backpack for emergencies (come on, it was June for Christ’s sake), the heavens did in fact open, quite viciously, a couple of hours later, enough to soak an un-named ill prepared hiker (hmmm, okay, I admit it) to the underwear, including a torrent of rain running down the back of her neck right down to her knickers! How it managed to squeeze past my backpack I’ll never know to this day. Anyway, suitable rain hats are important when you’re hiking! One of us had wet knickers and the other one didn’t.

Important Stuff About Hiking Rain Hats

Rain hats are available in a few different styles so you can choose whichever one you prefer, but look out for at least some of these important features:

    • Waterproof material (well, it’ll be raining) which is also breathable for minimum condensation and “sweaty head”.
    • Quick drying so that if it gets wet, it won’t stay wet for long.
    • Good sized brim – some hiking rain hats are designed with various brims which can be turned up or turned down when necessary (stopping the rain from hitting your face as well as running down the back of your neck).
    • Chin cord – gusty wind often accompanies the rain on hiking trips, and you really don’t want your rain hat to blow away do you . . . that would be terrible.

Loads of great hats . . . . hats off to ‘em!

Thought it was time for a litte music!
