Headbands
Headbands really don’t need much of an introduction do they, although headbands might not be something which you readily associate with hiking . . . more perhaps trail running, tennis, squash or girls who like flowers in their hair. Headbands do, however, deserve a very real place among your hiking headgear. Not only do they keep the sweat from dripping into your eyes, they can also stop your hair from blowing into your eyes and keep your ears warm. Some of them even have a place to put your flashlight!
How do hiking headbands differ from other sports headbands? Well, let’s take a look at some of the features available;
- Nice warm fabric to keep out the windchill but still have the “breathability” factor to dissipate excess moisture and keep you warm and dry.
- Stretchy fit so that it’s nice and snug, doesn’t fall down around your eyes and blind you, yet is not too tight that it gives you a headache.
- Drop down ear band for extra warmth. I don’t know about you but if my ears are cold . . . I’m cold . . . and when I’m cold I ain’t happy!
So you see, whereas many sports headbands are designed to primarily soak up the sweat, hiking headbands have a very different job.
