Hiking & Trail Jackets
What You Wearin’
Hiking & trail jackets come in all sizes, colors, fabrics, styles, designs and with widely varying price-tags. The right hiking or trail jacket for you will depend on many factors. They’ve gotta’ be able to keep you warm / cool / dry / comfortable, but they’ve gotta be lightweight (especially for when you’re not wearing your hiking jacket) and able to scrunch up real small to fit into your backpack. Just think of how your nice new linen jacket might look if it had been squeezed into a stuff sack for 3 days . . . I rest my case. Not that I’m suggesting that you stuff your new hiking jacket into a stuff sack, but you get the idea! And it’s not that the majority of hikers are “prima donnas” in the fashion department either, but hey, there’s dressing appropriately for hiking and there’s looking like some sort of tramp with a broken steam iron who has been dragged backwards through the proverbial hedge and has slept in his clothes for three days . . . you get my drift. Even if you have slept in your clothes for three days, there’s no need to advertise that fact is there?
There are lots of different types of hiking or trail jackets which are suitable for different occasions, locations and times of year. You can choose between;
- casual hiking jackets
- down jackets for hiking and backpacking
- fleece jackets
- hiking jackets with synthetic insulation
- jackets for hiking in the rain
- running jackets (if you can catch them!)
- ski jackets, also great for hiking in the snow
- snowboard jackets . . . what’s the difference?
- soft shell trail jackets
- wind shell hiking jackets
What a load of jackets there are to choose from!
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m sure that Minwah is a very nice person, but she reminds me of some of my second grade teachers, or my kids kindergarten teachers (I can’t remember that far back myself, but I’m sure mine were the same, I bet you’ve come across them too, speaking very slowly and clearly to make sure that you don’t miss a-n-y-t-h-i-n-g).
Thank goodness . . . this has nothing to do with hiking or trail jackets, but it’s so nice to get back to a little normality! Yeee Haaaa!
