Shorts For Hiking and Traveling In
Hiking and travel shorts give you a great sense of freedom, I mean, I know that travel and hiking pants are well designed for unrestricted movement and breathability, but there’s nothing quite like getting your legs out for a hike on a warm day is there? Okay, so you might have to slap on a little suncreen from time to time, you might get a scratch or two from some of the rocks and shrubs along the hiking trails and you might have to be extra vigilant for poisonous critters . . . but that doesn’t stop us from getting our hiking shorts out as soon as possible does it . . . . no it does not!
Hiking shorts and traveling shorts can be pretty much the same thing, you can travel in your hiking shorts, and you can hike in your travel shorts although some shorts are better for hiking and some shorts are better for traveling, but let’s not get too complicated, for anybody who wants to add a pair to their summer wardrobe, here’s what to look out for:
- tough fabric for long lasting durability, preferably fabric which helps to remove the sweat from your sticky bits in the heat of the summer
- fabric which provides protection from the sunshine, those ultraviolet rays are dangerous you know
- lots of pockets, front hand pockets, back zippered pockets, cargo pockets
- gusseted crotch for freedom of movement . . .
- lightweight, quick drying and easy to pack in your backpack
- water repellent (just in case you get caught in a summer shower

Hiking and travel shorts need to fit well but not restrict your movement at all. You do need full range of movement for when you’re hiking up and down rocks, as well as comfort for when you’re sitting down to take a well earned break on the hiking trail.
Of course, if you like the best of both worlds then why not treat yourself to some convertible pants . . . . one minute they’re great hiking and travel pants . . . the next minute they’re great hiking and travel shorts. What could be simpler?
