Walking Socks
These Socks Were Made For Walkin’
Calm down, calm down, we’ve all heard the ones about walking socks haven’t we . . . the socks which actually walk themselves to the laundry basket! Well, that’s not what we’re talking about here at all, we’re talking about socks which are made for walking. I know that you can walk in any old socks, walk to school, walk to the park, walk the dog, but some socks are definitely better at it than others. Some socks wear out very quickly (you know, the old “poking toe” which you always seem to be wearing when you have to take off your shoes in company), some socks slide down your feet and make life very uncomfortable, some socks seem to absorb odors and then pass them on to the inside of your walking shoes . . . which is why serious walkers, hikers, backpackers, trail runners all realize the importance of wearing a proper pair of proper walking socks.
Eyes right and get a load of that photo . . . those certainly are snazzy socks which really say something about the wearer . . . you can decide what that could be yourself.
What should you expect from a pair of walking socks.
- They gotta’ stay up for starters . . . lazy socks which slide down around your heels are a definite “no-no”.
- They gotta’ have plenty of cushioning underfoot for added comfort when you’re doin’ all that walkin’.
- They gotta’ be made from something comfortable (not itchy) but reinforced in all the right places so that they are long lasting.
- They gotta’ help your feet (and your socks and inside your walking shoes) to stay sweet smelling and pong free.
- They gotta’ keep your feet warm and dry in the winter, and cool and dry in the summer – sounds like a tall order – it can happen!
Walking socks . . . don’t keep ‘em all to yourself!
