How to Select Camp Chairs

There Are So Many to Choose From

Camp chairs are an important piece of camping equipment . . . you might be surprised at how much time you spend sitting around at the camp site – sitting by the fire, sitting admiring the view, sitting watching the world go by (or people-watching), or sitting around deciding how you’re going to spend the rest of the day . . . . camping is just so relaxing, if you’ve got yourself some rather comfortable camp chairs to sit on anyway!

Choose Your Camp Chairs Carefully

There’s a lot of different criteria to take into account when you’re choosing a camping chair . . .

    • Camping Chair Size – size matters in so many different parts of our life . . . . anyway, camping chairs need to fold up so that they don’t take up too much trunk space (you’ve got lots of other camping equipment to think about too, not just the camping chairs). Some camp chairs are quite small and don’t even have arms . . . some camp chairs are well padded and turn into proper lounge chairs with your legs up and your head back (they do take up a bit more space and are a little more difficult to get in and out of . . . top tip #1 make sure that you’ve put your camp chair onto a level bit of ground). Anyway, the size and type of camp chair you choose really depends on how you’re going to use it . . . I know you’re going to sit on it but bear with me (bear? where . . . just calm down and listen to what I’m saying about camp chairs) . . . okay, if your camping chair is to be used solely for camping trips then you can buy the biggest you can fit into the trunk of your car . . . this type of camping chair will also come in very useful for supervising the gardener back home whilst drinking home made lemonade on a warm afternoon . . . but if your camp chair is going to double up as somewhere to park your butt at Juniors baseball games then a smaller, more lightweight option might serve your purposes best.
    • Camper Size – not talking about the size of the camp chair this time, I’m talking about the size of the butt that’s going to be using it. Ordinarily speaking, smaller camp chairs can safely accommodate around 175 pounds of camper, so if you’re the type of camper who generally says yes to the question “do you wanna supersize that” then you’d better supersize your camping chair, or you could face the indignity and possible danger of it collapsing in a heap on the campsite floor.

Wow, talk about a big build up . . . just move along to around the 8 minute marker before you lose the will to live . . . I bet you thought it would be the big guy who fell through didn’t you . . . that little guy doesn’t look like he weighs more than 30 lbs, never mind 175.

    • Camping Chair Prices -prices start at less than 10 bucks for the super duper lightweight, rip in a minute discount store folding camp chairs, and you can pay closer to $200 for a really super duper comfortable, last for ages camping chair . . . so most campers plump for something in the middle. Expect to pay between around $50 – $75 for a camping chair which is going to be both comfortable and last for more than one camping trip.
    • Number of Camping Chairs – as a rule of thumb you should always buy a couple of extra camping chairs, just in case you take some friends along with you on your camping trip or you get chatting to fellow campers . . . keep these extra camping chairs hidden well out of sight until you’ve decided whether you would actually enjoy sitting with your neighbors discussing their eldest daughers incredible IQ and how they are planning to reserve her a place at Harvard . . . even though she’s only 3 years old!  Once they spot your extra camping chairs you might never get rid of them and it does save you having to be rude. “We’ve come out here for some peace and quiet . . . now SOD OFF”.

You certainly wouldn’t lend him one of your camping chairs would you . . .  campers from hell!
